Sep 24, 2023Clips of Joe Rogan Opposing Donald Trump Go Viral After Endorsement - Newsweek
Videos of Joe Rogan opposing Donald Trump and some of the policies he stands for are circulating on social media after the podcast host endorsed the former president.
The host of The Joe Rogan Experience, currently Spotify's most popular podcast in the U.S., declared his support for Trump on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday night. He cited Elon Musk as making "the most compelling case for Trump you'll hear" and linked to his latest podcast episode featuring the entrepreneur.
Shortly after, the podcaster and YouTuber Kyle Kulinski posted a video on X, formerly Twitter, that collated snippets of Rogan on his show expressing opinions that appear to contradict his support for Trump.
Rogan went from saying stuff like this to endorsing a corrupt billionaire authoritarian conman warmonger who stands against virtually every policy he claimed to believe in pic.twitter.com/tJ32PoisOC
In the clip, which was first shared on the platform in 2022, Rogan could be heard praising Bernie Sanders, Michelle Obama, and calling Barack Obama the "best president that we have had in our lifetime."
He also said, "I've never voted right wing in my life" and called Trump "dangerous" in reference to the events of January 6, 2021.
Other clips showed Rogan expressing support for universal basic income, free college education, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, universal healthcare, and paying higher taxes.
He further expressed opposition to two of Trump's immigration policies: ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) policy protecting people who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children from deportation, and separating children from their parents at the border.
Kulinski's post went viral, receiving 1.3 million views and 18,000 likes. Progressive commentator Mehdi Hasan was among the thousands who shared the clip, receiving an additional 500,000 views.
A similar clip was shared by the account @PatriotTakes. It showed a segment of Rogan's interview with comedian Tom Segura in July 2022 in which Rogan referred to Trump as a "man baby" in response to allegations that his former advisor Jared Kushner developed a system to give Trump bad news, as the New York Times reported in 2022.
The clip received 323,000 views and over 6,000 likes.
Newsweek has contacted Rogan and the Trump campaign out of hours via email for comment.
In his post on X promoting his interview with Musk, Rogan wrote, I agree with him every step of the way. For the record, yes, that's an endorsement of Trump."
Trump reacted to Rogan's endorsement in real time during a campaign event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, calling it "big news" and saying "that's so nice" given he "tends to be a little more liberal."
Trump appeared on Rogan's podcast on October 26, and JD Vance appeared on October 31. Rogan said he had been open to an episode with Kamala Harris, but it fell through when they failed to agree on the terms of the interview.
