CASPER, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette on Tuesday, obtained through daily media rounds conducted Wednesday by Campbell County Sheriff Scott Matheny and Gillette Police Department Deputy Chief Brent Wasson.
Crash — 9:49 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, Interstate 90 near Rozet (CCSO)
A 40-year-old woman from Kentucky was reportedly eastbound in a Ford F-150 hauling a house trailer when she hit a patch of slush, sending her into a fishtail, Campbell County Sheriff Scott Matheny said. The house trailer flipped on its side and was completely destroyed. The truck was pulled to the shoulder of the road but received no damage. No injuries were noted. “We stood by until Highway Patrol arrived on scene,” Mathney said.
Missing person — 9:23 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 (GPD)
A 55-year-old woman and her son’s girlfriend reported the man, age 34, missing to police. They said he left his residence about 1 a.m. Tuesday to go to the liquor store and he said he would be back in a few hours, GPD Chief Deputy Brent Wasson said. They have reportedly been unable to contact him by phone and social media. Officers searched for him throughout the night, Wasson said Wednesday morning.
Suspicious act — 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, Wright (CCSO)
A man called to report “a belligerent male at town hall,” Matheny said. The man was reportedly upset about a perceived lack of snowplow activity during the snowstorm. The man had cleared the area by the time the deputy arrived and remains unidentified.
Theft — 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, Recluse (CCSO)
A rancher on Bitter Creek Road reported two calves stolen from his field. The investigation is ongoing.
Hit-and-run — 5:55 p.m. (GPD)
The manager at a Burger King reported that an independent food delivery contractor had apparently left his white vehicle in drive because it struck the building when leaving, Wasson said. The driver reportedly notified staff but did not leave any other information and drove off. Over $1,000 damage to the building is reported.
“Breaking and Entering” — 10:42 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, Wright (CCSO)
Three deputies ended up investigating after a 39-year-old woman called the sheriff’s office convinced she heard people in her attic, Matheny said. Deputies cleared a path to the attic and took video footage within to show that they had searched and found no one. They asked the woman about her drug use history and she reportedly agreed with their suggestion to seek a professional evaluation.
Crash — 1:26 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, Highway 50 and Highway 387 (CCSO)
The sheriff’s office got a text message about a crash in the area and responded to find a Silver Mazda CX-90 that had slid across the highway and into a field. The car’s passage through a wire fence caused over $1,000 in damages, Mathney said. The driver, a 28-year-old man from Virginia, was uninjured, and was reportedly able to drive to Wright after the towing company got the car out of the field.
Agency assist — 1:11 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2nd Street and Brooks Avenue (GPD)
A 34-year-old man known to have a bond revocation warrant was spotted walking near an off-duty officer, Wasson said. The man was arrested. Wasson remarked that “off-duty” was a somewhat illusory concept in law enforcement.
