A YOUNG man has tragically died in mid-air during a bungee jump.

The 23-year-old is reported to have suffered a heart attack during his jump over a ravine in Chile.

Unfortunately, he fell ill in the process and a horrific video captured his lifeless body dangling from a crane.

Firefighters were rushed in from San José de Maipo to rescue the victim’s body from the bungee cord.

Resuscitation manoeuvres were performed before the young man was transferred to a healthcare facility.

He was later pronounced dead.

Public prosecutor Juan Cheuquiante has gone to the scene to gather further information.

The victim, who has not yet been named, had carried out the jump at the Cajón del Maipo canyon near Santiago.

It remains unclear whether the young man had an underlying health problem before taking part in the jump.

Although deputy commissioner Yahanara Silva, from the South Homicide Brigade, noted his family's remarks that he had no history of any illnesses.

The victim, who came from the city of Talca, was visiting the attraction with his mother and sister.

An investigation into his death has been launched.

In November 2022, a 25-year-old lawyer also died of cardiac arrest during a bungee jump in Colombia.

It was reported Yecenia heard an instructor telling her partner to jump and believed the command was for her.

She fell 164ft, forgetting her harness had not been attached to the bungee cord yet.

In a desperate attempt to save his girlfriend, Yecenia's partner rushed to her side and started to perform CPR.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and medical reports later confirmed she had died of cardiac arrest during the fall.

And, just months ago, a Japanese man began to experience shortness of breath just hours after completing the world's biggest bungee jump.

The 56-year-old thrill-seeker took the terrifying 764ft plunge from the Macau Tower in the Municipality of Macau on December 3, and stopped breathing hours later.

He was taken to the Conde S. Januario Hospital for emergency treatment but was later pronounced dead.

Hong Kong news outlet, HK01, reported that the man had no superficial injuries on his body.
