GILLETTE, Wyo. — Here is a summary of notable crimes in and around Gillette yesterday, Oct. 28. This information was obtained through daily media conferences with personnel from the Gillette Police Department and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.

Runaways/Interference — 6:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27

A 17-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl were reported as runaways from the youth crisis shelter. Gillette Police Department Deputy Chief Brent Wasson said a drone with infrared scanning was used in the search. They were found around 8:28 a.m. Monday morning on the 1400 block of Kluber Road. While making arrangements for transport back to the facility, the 13-year-old fled again and repeatedly struck two officers who were detaining her. She was arrested and charged with two counts of interference.

Welfare Check — Monday, Oct. 28

Officers were dispatched to a vape shop on the 800 block of Madison Street for a report of a man passed out in the driver’s seat of his pickup. Since the man would not wake up, officers opened the door to check and saw an empty can of nitrous oxide. Wasson said the man showed symptoms of huffing upon waking and was arrested for DUI after performing field sobriety tests. A pipe with suspected cocaine was also found. He was charged with DUI, possession of cocaine, driving under a suspended license and a probation violation. Officers learned that the nitrous was bought at the vape shop.

Theft — Monday, Oct. 28

A 24-year-old reported the theft of his $1,000 phone from The Other Side Bar and Grill on Saturday. He said he was able to access the phone’s location at the Squaw Valley Apartments on Monday. He contacted people in the area, but people said they didn’t know anything about it. The investigation is ongoing.

Harassment — 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29

Officers responded to the Wingate Hotel for a report of a man calling and harassing a 19-year-old female employee from a private number. While on scene, the man called back. Officers tried to speak with him but he hung up, Wasson said.
